Mystery pin

I resently got some old sewing tools that belonged to my grandmother. There were the threads and the needles and the pins, and also this mysterious looking pin that I don't really know what it's for. Is it a mutant pin or does it have a function? Maybe it was used when sewing button holes by hand? What do you think?
